Me and the Pups in the caone

Canoeing Season is Now OPEN!

April is the official opening of canoeing season here in TN, and the weather is perfect right now for a good canoe trip!

Unfortunately due to work schedules it looks like we probably won’t be able to take many if any canoe (or camping) trips this year.

That’s a bummer, I was looking forward to having some exhausted and happy pups.

While we won’t be taking any new trips, I will still be posting some of our older trips (like the ones from last year that I never got around to posting), as well attempting to toss in some posts on boating etiquette, recommended gear, and of course safety (both human and canine).

If you would like to know more about the above picture and that particular trip you should head over to our post titled: Dogs gone canoeing.

I’ll also be making some changes to the ‘Canoeing With Dogs’ tab here soon(ish), so it will include a list of all canoeing posts, a canoeing bucket list (places we’ve gone and wish to go), as well as canoeing photo galleries (yes I will be adding more photos soon).

Yes we do lol! There is always a chance of tipping, but so far Kevin and I have yet to tip with the four of them.

Kevin has tipped before, many times in fact, to the point where even the way we pack and load our gear on the canoe is planned to make recovery from tipping that much easier. I’ll be sharing more about our canoeing adventures soon!

Thank you! I do like that picture as well, I personally wouldn’t know how to go about preparing or training a cat for a canoe trip, but I have seen a few shows or documentaries (whatever you want to call them) on Animal Planet where a family did take their cat canoeing with them!

So that tells me it is possible, but I would imagine the cat would have to *really* like adventures and water!

Thanks for stopping by Mom of Dogs. I loved checking out your canoeing photos with your dogs. I can’t believe you manage to canoe with all 4 of them! I’m thinking we should definitely give it a shot with our 2 now. We’ll probably need to invest in some life jackets though I doubt my dogs are as strong of swimmers as yours seem to be.

It all depends on the size, depth and current. We don’t take them on anything over a class 2 (minor current) and the rivers we canoe usually are shallow enough for us to stand in easily, when we go to the lake it of course is much deeper but has no current.

I have a few links to some good quality dog lifejackets, I need to find them and go through them again so I can share them here. Hopefully I’ll get them up before you buy a set for you pups, that way you know you are getting the right ones. ^_^
